Christmas In July Community Service Project
It is summer, it is hot and fleece …. yikes! Yes, summer is the time to make no sew fleece blankets especially in the cold weather states because blanket drives for the homeless and needy begin in October!
The non profit organizations who support those in need are gearing up in October so they are ready when the colder weather begins in November.
Project Linus is an organization whose mission is to provide comfort blankets to children in need. Blankets are needed year round and many community service groups make blankets in the school year; but blankets are needed all year.
No sew fleece blankets are easy to make and can be finished in many ways – check out the Pinterest Board for the different ideas on how to finish a no sew fleece blanket.
How To Use No Sew Fleece Blanket Scraps To Benefit Pets In Shelters
If you have ever made a no sew fleece blanket then you know that blanket making produces fleece scraps. Don’t throw those scraps away! Be careful if the furball is around and safety first for our beloved furry family members; store this ornament on a high shelf or closed container that Fido cannot open.

Christmas In July Plarn Drive – Christmas In July Kids’ Crafts
Plarn is plastic yarn made of plastic bags. Sleep mats for the homeless can be made out of plarn by your local knitting and crochet groups, but first plarn must be made!
Each sleep mat takes 500-700 plastic bags and making plarn is an easy way to involve your kids into this community project.
Kids can help gather the bags, sort the bags, cut the bags and then make the plarn!
