Fudge balls are a fun twist on the traditional chocolate fudge recipe! An easy three ingredient fudge recipe cooks in minutes in the microwave for a yummy no bake dessert. Fudge balls are the bite sized dessert which can be covered with your favorite topping and is party ready in under an hour.
This microwave fudge recipe uses condensed milk. Have you ever stood in the baking aisle staring at the milk cans trying to remember whether the recipe calls for condensed or evaporated milk? For this easy fudge recipe sweetened condensed milk is used.
How To Make Fudge Balls
Ingredients
1 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
1 package semi sweet chocolate chips
1 tsp. vanilla
Directions
- In a medium size microwave safe bowl (I prefer a glass bowl) add the chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk.
- Gently mix the chips and milk.
- Microwave on high for 2.5 to 3.25 minutes. This is a range as the time depends upon the power of the microwave and the bowl. Begin with setting the timer at 2.5 minutes and check the mixture.
- Use oven mitts if removing the fudge from the microwave as the bowl will be HOT!
- Just as with making fudge on the stove top a boil needs to be achieved so the fudge will set.
- At 2.5 minutes the chocolate chips should beginning to melt.
- Now microwave the fudge in 25 second increments.
- In my microwave the fudge will need 3 to 3.25 minutes total.
- If peeking through the microwave window a good indicator as to if the fudge has cooked long enough is to see the beginning of the milk bubbling around the edges.
- Using oven mitts remove the bowl of fudge and stir. The remaining chips should be soft enough to melt completely when stirring.
- Add vanilla and stir.
- Let the fudge cool to a slightly warm temperature. The fudge can be cooled on the counter top or put into the refrigerator for approximately 10 minutes.
- If using the refrigerator to cool the fudge be watchful! leaving the fudge in the refrigerator too long and the fudge will harden. (But no worries there if you have stepped away from the refrigerator too long, the fudge can be warmed on the counter top, but this adds extra steps and time).
- To serve warm the fudge balls to room temperature.
Fantasy Fudge Balls
This above microwave fudge recipe is very quick to make, but I also make fudge balls from the tried and true Fantasy Fudge recipe.
Yes, the original Fantasy Fudge recipe with marshmallow creme! Marshmallow fudge is creamy melt in your mouth fudge which can also be made into fudge balls. Yummy!
How To Roll Fudge Balls
- My first tip is to use disposable gloves to roll the fudge balls! So much easier and makes clean up a breeze.
- Cover a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper.
- Spoon a healthy size dollop of fudge into the palm of your hand and roll the fudge into a ball.
- Repeat!
- I batch roll the fudge into balls by “type” depending upon what decorations are being used.
- On a paper plate add the sprinkles or fudge ball topping of your choice.
- Roll each ball into the topping.
- Place the completed fudge balls onto the lined baking sheet.
- Once complete let the fudge balls set on the counter or in the refrigerator.
- To store, cover the fudge balls with plastic wrap.
- To serve, warm the fudge balls to room temperature when removed from refrigerator.
Toppings For Fudge Balls
This is a very versatile recipe for fudge balls! So many yummy choice to decorate and cover the fudge balls.
Here are a few of my favorite toppings for fudge balls!
My Three Favorite Fudge Topping
1. Coconut Fudge Balls
Fluffy coconut and fudge balls combine to make a nutty fudge ball treat. The white makes a perfect backdrop on a dessert platter for colorful mini desserts.
2. Peppermint Fudge Balls
Add a little sugar and mint to the fudge balls with a peppermint sugar topping! The red and white adds a cheery contrast for the bit sized fudge blls.
3. Christmas Fudge Balls
Festive and fun Christmas sprinkles and jimmies turn fudge balls into a yummy mini dessert for holiday parties.
Of course any type of chopped nut can be used! Any topping that is small can be used. More topping ideas: sunflower seeds, flaxmeal, crushed cashews, toasted oatmeal, crushed leftover candy canes, crushed hard candy.
