This is the year for the easy Halloween craft whether it be for kids or a Halloween party! Easy in my world means quick to make, materials from the craft stash, a trip to the dollar store and Halloween crafts that can be made in under one hour. A friend gave me a set of mason jars which quickly combined with a bag of googly eyes to make this cute Halloween Mason Jar Googly Eye Vase.
I appreciate the economies of scale when purchasing googly eyes and would be the first to say I am always thankful googly eyes are in the craft stash. But somehow I had an overabundance of googly eyes in the craft stash this year.
This easy Halloween craft for kids was the perfect place to land a few or many few googly eyes. If you need to replenish your supply of googly eyes make sure to head over to the dollar store!
How To Make A Halloween Mason Jar Googly Eye Vase
Materials
Black spray paint
Glue gun or craft glue
Directions
- Spray the exterior of the mason jar with the black spray paint. The interior can be spray painted if desired.
- Dry. The paint needs to be fully dry before beginning the next step.
Note: I have painted mason jars with acrylic paint and spray painted mason jars. I have found the spray paint that dries quickly works much better than acrylic paint.
Each covers a mason jar well, but the drying time of acrylic paint far exceeded the spray paint. Tips on How To Paint The Inside Of A Mason Jar are available here.
Now let the Googly eye fun begin!
- The Googly Eyes can be applied to the mason jar with a glue gun or by removing the adhesive backing of each googly eye.
- I prefer the glue gun technique of applying the googly eyes to the jar. The self adhesive backings are not removed if applying the googly eyes with glue.
- Craft glue will work well and the self adhesive googly eyes can work IF you can quickly remove the backing from the googly eyes.
- The Halloween Googly Eye Vase obviously takes many, many and more many googly eyes! I had a set of googly eyes where the paper did not choose to separate from the self adhesive back very easily. Frustration does not equal a fun craft!
- Glue googly eyes all over the mason jar in any pattern or no pattern if desired.
- Let dry.
Your Halloween Mason jar vase is now ready for flowers or snacks. The vase makes a fun holder for Halloween lollipops, pretzel sticks or anything that needs a vertical holder.

Notes
Illuminated Halloween Vase
If you are having a Halloween party and decorating the house or tables then illuminating the googly eye vase is so so fun! Use flameless candles ( I particularly like the tealight size flameless) to safely light up your googly eye vase. The vases look so cool sprinkled amongst the Halloween decorations or placed throughout the house.
