Winter 2015 is continuing its’ brutal run through the United States. Snow, blizzards, bone chattering temperatures below 0 without windchill rages on making this one more memorable winter.
Last winter the two words we heard ad nauseam were ‘polar vortex’. This winter I had vowed not to utter those words, cold is after all cold. The Weather Channel continues its’ campaign to name winter storms. This was a controversial decision and how many times is the weather controversial? The National Weather Service has chosen not to name winter storms and Accuweather follows the same no winter storm name protocol. A stop naming winter storms petition sprung up last year; however this year The Weather Channel continues its winter storm list.
Many Americans just finished paying off last years’ heating bills when this winter began. Even if one is on the ‘budget plan’ these long lasting and brutally cold winters are the winters which keep on giving when paying for heat. Whether these winter are the new normal or an aberration, it is getting old and cold and brought to mind this little ditty.
Sung to the tune of Hey Jude by the Beatles
Hey ConEd, give us a break,
Take our heating bill and make it better.
Remember our paycheck is so tiny,
Then perhaps you will make it better.
Hey ConEd, we need some help,
How about a little itty bitty discount?
The polar vortex is taking all our money,
Would you like to make it better…
And anytime you feel our pain, hey ConEd, refrain
Stop charging us all those greenbacks.
For you know its’ not our fault,
As our little polar vortex has no heart.
Hey ConEd, stop those meters,
Make our bank accounts a little bit better.
Remember we’re doing the best we can,
And maybe you’ll help to make it better, better better … Na na na na, na na na, na na, hey ConEd…
