Materials

2 1/4 inch coilless safety pins

Assorted beads

Directions

  1. Adults only for this part of the craft! Gently straighten the safety pin arm. The pin does not need to be absolutely straight, just straight enough to thread the beads.
  2. Choose the beads, three to five beads per pin.
  3. Thread the beads onto the safety pin.
  4. Reverse the process and un straighten the arm of the safety pin so the safety pin can close in its’ normal manner.

How To Personalize The Pin

For those who have not used beads before; there is no shortage of beads to find and create a personalized pin.

Beads come in every color and theme imaginable.

For the dog lover there are animal beads.

Red felt

Foam paper cut into heart shapes or store bought hearts

Paper mache jewelry dish ( a winter craft!)

Add personalized Valentine greetings to the foam paper hearts or Valentine cards.

Where To Find Coilless Safety Pins

Coilless safety pins are the absolute necessity to create this pin.

The size required for the Valentine’s Day Safety Pin Jewelry is 2 1/4″ .

While it is tempting to use regular safety pins please save the second trip to the store and buy coilless safety pins from the start! (I speak from experience.)

Regular safety pins can be used, but the effect is not the same for the person wearing the pin as the beads do not hang neatly and will be bunched together along with the fabric. Don’t do it!

Variety of safety pin broochs on felt hearts

Coilless safety pins are available at the local craft supply store or easily available online.

This is a very affordable craft to make with a group of children as the beads and pins are purchased in quantity and if the dollar store is used for beads then 20 pins can be easily made for .25 to .50 per pin depending upon the price of the beads.
