August is National Immunization Awareness Month and the week of August 16th the focus is on adults and seniors.
Are you vaccines up to date?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) wants to remind all ages during the month of August to review their vaccines and ensure all vaccines are up to date. Earlier this year the CDC revised their pneumonia vaccine schedule to recommend that seniors receive two pneumonia vaccines: Prevnar 13 and Pneumovax 23.
Dosing Schedule For Two Pneumonia Vaccines
Accurate records and consultation with your physician is recommended to determine the dosing schedule to receive the pneumococcal vaccines Prevnar 13 and Pneumovax 23. Both vaccines cannot be administered simultaneously and the wait time between administering both vaccines is dependent upon which vaccine was first administered.
Vaccines And Seniors
The CDC recommends and publishes a vaccination schedule for adults depending upon one’s age and preexisting conditions. A easy to use online quiz is available on their website to evaluate which vaccines you may need; the results are printable and can then be taken to your physician for consultation.
