Party On! DIY Paint Stick Vase

This is one of my favorite DIY’s this year. Easy to make, easy to give with the added bonus of using aluminum cans and plastic bottles to upcycle and recycle into the DIY Paint Stick Vase.

DIY Paint Stick Vase. Easy craft for kids and adults. Fun party gift and decoration for any occasion.

This Paint Stick Vase was made using paint sticks aka paint stirrers, a 16 ounce plastic recyclable pop bottle and glue. Seriously! Three materials plus scrap jute I had in the craft stash and an homemade Paint Stick Vase was born.

Materials

7-10 paint sticks per vase

Craft Glue or glue gun

Recyclable empty bottle

Scrap jute or ribbon optional

Directions

I used the same procedure from the Valentine’s Day Popsicle vase to make the paint stick vases. Learn how here for an easy and quick way to DIY a vase with any type of craft stick! The number of paint sticks needed will vary depending upon the circumference of your bottle or can.

Add Color To The Paint Stick Vase?

Yes, you can! Paint sticks can be purchased (or make friends with you favorite paint supplier…) in the natural wood color. However, the paint sticks can be easily painted with acrylic paint! While this adds another step to the Paint Stick Vase acrylic paint dries very quickly and the paint takes very well to a paint stick. Using acrylic paint also adds many color options as you can manipulate the color intensity of the paint by adding water. Paint sticks with an acrylic paint wash look lovely if you want to see the grain of the wood.

I like to have the different decorating options:

  1. Natural paint stick vase with colorful flowers
  2. Painted paint stick vase with color coordinated flowers or party theme colors.

After making a test paint stick vase from a stash of paint sticks I had leftover after buying paint I liked the result so much I purchased paint sticks. I was very happy with the Pro Project 12 inch paint sticks which come in a pack of 30. There was a huge quality difference between the Pro Project sticks and the freebies I had received when purchasing paint; the sticks are much thicker, sturdier and splinter free.

Party On With The Paint Stick Vase

I am planning on making a few of these vases to color coordinate for a baby shower and as a party favor for the guests to take home. The possibilities are endless! Bridal and baby showers, superbowl themed, graduation school colors, any holiday party.

This can be a very economical DIY particularly if you have access to fresh garden flowers. I used a 16 oz pop bottle, 8 paint sticks to make this vase. Current cost $3.19 per vase for a dual party decoration and as a thank you for coming party favor for your guests.
