Ingredients

  • Large or medium large fresh strawberries
  • Chocolate to melt or candy melts
  • Pretzels super thin
  • Paint brush
  • Popsicle or craft stick
  • Decorating bag optional
  • Parchment paper or wax paper

Instructions

  • Wash and pat dry fresh strawberries.
  • Melt the chocolate in a microwave.  Melt the chocolate in 30 second intervals in a tall bowl until the desired consistency.
  • Lower the strawberry into the melted chocolate almost to the leaves.
  • Use the popsicle stick to cover the strawberry. Careful of the leaves!
  • Use the paint brush to cover the top section of the berry. Starting at the top of the chocolate already on the strawberry paint up and under the green leaves.
  • If preferred the leaves can be removed from the strawberry prior to dipping. It is personal preference.
  • Remove the strawberry from the chocolate.
  • Let the chocolate strawberry set and can place in the refrigerate to speed the process.

The Handles

  • Make the handles either using broken apart pretzels or by making a chocolate handle.
  • What Do I Use As A Handle?
  • The handle can be the slightly tricky part, but once a few handles are made they can be done assembly line style.
  • Pretzels and chocolate I have found make the best handles. Break apart the traditional pretzel and use the circle part of the pretzel. Size the pretzel to the teacup.
  • Lay out pretzel handles and cover with the chocolate or dip into chocolate. Let set.
  • Method two is to use chocolate.  Size a half circle to the teacup. Pipe a half circle of chocolate onto parchment paper and let set. It may take a little trial an error to find the desired thickness of the chocolate handle.

How Do I Attach The Handle?

  • Use melted chocolate as the glue to attach the handle. Put a dab of melted chocolate on the teacup for each end of the handle.
  • Very gently press the handle to the teacup and let set.
  • Finish by painting a layer of chocolate over the entire handle for a smooth finish.
  • Refrigerate.

Notes

How Long Do Chocolate Covered Strawberry Tea Cups Last?
Fresh strawberries are unfortunately very perishable. I would suggest making the tea cups the day before to ensure the teacups do not start to degrade and become mushy. If the strawberries are very fresh (your own harvest or from a Farmer's Market) it could be stretched an additional day.
Decorating The Tea Cup
The tea cups can be further decorated with chocolate by using a decorator bag filled with melted chocolate. This step does require another round of letting the chocolate set.
