Old Fashioned Bread Pudding Recipe
The family favorite Old Fashioned Bread Pudding recipe. Easy to make, yummy to eat and a classic.

- 1 loaf of bread your choice of bread, French bread works well
- 6 eggs
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 cups milk
- Sprinkle lemon zest
- 1 cup raisins optional
Butter a 9 by 9 inch pan, sprinkle raisins on bottom of pan.Butter slices of bread, cut slices in half and lay on bottom of the pan.Whisk together eggs, salt, sugar, vanilla extract, milk and lemon rind.Pour over bread.Place pan in a water bath.Bake at 400 degrees, 20-25 minutes until set. (I found it takes 30 minutes in my oven)
Note! Water baths can be cumbersome and heavy to handle.
Place the pan with water in the oven first and then add pan with the bread pudding.
Even safer is to put an empty pan in the oven and then pour the water into the pan and then add the pan with the pudding.
