I have been a connoisseur of sorts of healthcare.gov since its’ launch on October 1st. In the interim, the President has issued an apology due to the lack of functionality, the glitches and down time of the website.
In mid November the President stated that those with a cancelled insurance policy could indeed keep their policy. As one of the cancelled January lst group I can state that I cannot keep my policy. Blue Cross will not allow their members to keep the policies as they do not conform to the Affordable Care Act (ACA.) My policy is neither a junk policy nor a catastrophic policy. It is expensive for my income, but offers reasonable coverage for my needs. It does not conform as maternity coverage is not offered. Nor wanted I might add.
As those of us who have tried to use healthcare.gov would candidly say, “It remains a hot mess.”
Yes, the functionality has improved. Each visit the website does look more like one would expect. My main concern remains the insurance companies are not getting valid information from the site. My calls to Blue Cross have confirmed the issue.
For now, I will continue the wait and see approach as the end of December deadline approaches.
