The perfect no bake cake! Or rather the perfect no bake cake which is no bake because you bought it! When I hear SANDERS my heart and taste buds go to Sanders as in Fred Sanders and his legendary hot fudge topping, hot fudge cream puffs, chocolates, candies and of course the infamous Sanders Bumpy Cake. If I could make this cake to replicate the original I would – alas some things are better left to the original pros and this is one.
Sanders Bumpy Cake Review
So what’s not to love about Sanders Bumpy Cake? Sure there are knock offs out there, but I guarantee to all chocolate lovers that the Sanders Bumpy Cake has few if any parallels.
So what is a Sanders Bumpy Cake? Described on the Sanders Confectionary website as a cake “made with rich Devil’s food cake and topped with rich buttercream bumps before being draped in our delicious fudge icing.” Indeed, it is the blend of the three which is a melt in your mouth treat and leaves you eagerly anticipating the next bite. I love chocolate, but do not like it to be overpowering and this blend is delicate; neither the cake, the icing or the buttercream is overpowering.
However the Sanders Bumpy cake is not an inexpensive purchase. I believe it is worth every penny and this is one of those items where you do get what you pay for – in a good way! If you’ve ever tasted the bumpy cake and then compared the taste of a knock off, you will quickly taste the difference.
Would I rather splurge and enjoy the original? Absolutely.
The price isn’t astronomical, but if you spend $15.00 for a cake, it’d be better be worth every $1.00 and every penny. And this cake is and I wouldn’t say that about many store bought cakes. So where can I find the elusive bumpy cake you ask?
Where To Find Sanders Products
Sanders Candy and confectionaries have a long history in the Midwest. Established in the 1870’s in Detroit after the Chicago Fire of 1871 destroyed the first store. The family run company and its’ recipes have survived through the decades and thankfully lives on today.
Sanders was purchased by the Morley Candy Company which has provided wider distribution. Meijer’s stores in the Midwest are retailers. Look in the refrigerated bake goods section of your grocery store and for greater convenience, Sanders Bumpy Cake is now in the frozen section as well. The Sanders product line is also available at their online store.
Amazon has a wide variety of the hot fudge toppings which will be sure to please all hot fudge fans and ice cream sundae fans!
